You’ve always been there
A pillar of support, you always care
You help us to remember to enjoy the journey,
You tell us that to be grateful is the key
On phone calls, you tell us to go,
Get on with the work, you tell us you know
And understand why we have to cut conversations short,
Tell us it’s OK when we visit less than we thought
It’s not through a cold heart,
But a heart that would show love spilling over,
If we ever teared it apart,
Full of gold,
We’re never forgotten.
You are a wise sensitive soul,
In your noorani face, Allah’s beauty we behold,
Allah gave you three daughters
and a son
Some would say, what a plight,
But you always saw the Might,
The Generosity of Allah,
The way you’d enjoy the banter,
You love the tears and drama,
You listen then you say,
Don’t worry it’ll all be OK
You encourage us all to see the light,
Through the uphill struggle that is life.
A grandad, so lighthearted and playful,
So glad when you see them,
For their funny little ways,
Your heart they sway,
You remind the older ones not to stray!!
Listen to your parents, you say…
You love the way the little ones fight with you,
Love to watch them grow, through every hue!
A husband, you’re the perfect partner for mum mashaAllah!
This woman who counted the days until you’d be back inshaAllah
We laugh and say Mum’s kitchen makes us fat,
But Mum’s food provides us with so much more than that,
A mother’s concern, a mother’s heart,
It breaks a little every time we part,
We love you so much Mum, just knowing you’re always there, a source of comfort,
That you always care,
is worth the whole world to us and more,
We know with your love we’ll never be poor!
Thank you parents for being so amazing and cool!
You’re warmth, wisdom, large hearts and generosity,
A reflection of our beloved Rasul
Peace be upon him and his family
I thank Allah for these tears which confirm for me,
The love I feel,
That Allah has given us the best parents in this nation!!
And my sisters, my brother!
I’d be a stranger with any others,
It’s sad to think we’ve had such losses,
But it’s a huge reminder to count our blessings,
The sibling fights,
The funny nicknames,
The chases around the house,
The board games, oh the board games!
All of you together,
You make us rich,
You are our wealth,
Your love keeps us in good health!
The seven of us are so lucky to have a family so bounteous,
AlhamduLillah for everything that is marvellous!
We love you and I feel that you should know that!
It helps me get by every day,
In your hearts we are there to stay,
Allah Kareem, Allah Kareem,
Our past life together seems like a dream! A wondrous adventure,
The dens, ladybirds, bikes and more,
The cul-de-sac, Sycamore Close and Plot number four?
The laughs, the jokes, remember when baji Sam pretended to be a stranger on the floor!!?
Then Chacha was worried,
Opened the window,
Tried to work out why you were there,
The laughter, the tears, oh what wonderful years!!
This began as an ode to Dad,
And ended with everything
Everything that makes me glad,
The special aunties and uncles, cousins and friends who are a part of this woven tapestry,
Love without end,
Anyone who is reading this and related to me,
I want you to know I’m thankful that you’re part of this family tree,
Our life we’ve travelled,
Would never have happened,
Our dreams never unravelled,
Without the love and care of our elders,
Our elders who traversed land and seas,
Who dedicated everything to their families
We are so grateful, yes we are,
And it all began with a man who was sincere with Allah!
